Adolescent Care
As physicians and other health care professionals, we have an ethical obligation to provide the best possible care for our adolescent patients. A key tenet of all health professionals is to ensure that adolescents have access to the health services they need, including sexual and reproductive health services. As the primary providers of health care to adolescents, we also have an obligation to make every reasonable effort to encourage adolescents to involve parents in their decisions, as parental support can, in many circumstances, increase the potential for dealing with the adolescent's needs on a continuing basis. If communication between the adolescent and parent cannot be facilitated, access to confidential health care for the adolescent must be ensured. Our physicians and health care providers are very knowledgeable of the state laws and their obligations to report cases of abuse to the proper authority, in accordance with those laws, after the discussion with the adolescent and parent, as appropriate.

Podiatry
A podiatrist, DPM, doctor of podiatric medicine, is the only health care professional whose total training focuses on the foot, ankle and related body systems. As a specialist in foot care, the podiatrist receives extensive training in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of foot and ankle disorders by medical and surgical means. After obtaining an undergraduate degree, the podiatric
doctor spends four years in a college of podiatric medicine to obtain a doctorate degree. Many podiatrists further their education by participating in a post-graduate residency program at an approved hospital or university. Following their doctorate degree, each podiatrist must pass national and state examinations in order to be licensed by the state in which he or she will practice.

Our Podiatrist cares for people of all ages, treating any foot problem. The common disorders include bunions, heel pain/spurs, hammertoes, neuromas, ingrown toenails, warts, corns and calluses. The Podiatrist also renders care of sprains, fractures, infections, and injuries to the foot, ankle and heel.

Psychiatry
A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. It takes many years of education and training to become a psychiatrist. This extensive medical training enables our Psychiatrist to understand the body's functions and the complex relationship between emotional illness and other medical illnesses. The Psychiatrist of HSI is thus the mental health professional and physician best qualified to distinguish between physical and psychological causes of both mental and physical distress.

Social Workers
Social work is a profession for those with a strong desire to help improve people's lives. Social workers help people function the best way they can in their environment, deal with their relationships, and solve personal and family problems. Social workers often see clients who face a life-threatening disease or a social problem, such as inadequate housing, unemployment, a serious illness, a disability, or substance abuse. Social workers also assist families that have serious domestic conflicts, sometimes involving child or spousal abuse.

Our Social Workers often provide social services in health-related settings that now are governed by managed care organizations. To contain cost, these organizations emphasize short-term intervention, ambulatory and community-based care, and a greater decentralization of services.

We provide licensed social workers to clients at all of our centers five days a week from locations that are easily accessible to Montgomery and surrounding counties.
